A 25-year-old police officer was moderately wounded in a stabbing attack at the Chain Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City on Friday evening.
The Israel Police said the incident occurred at around 9:08 p.m., when a terrorist armed with a knife arrived at the Chain Gate. A police officer operating at the scene noticed the terrorist, who aroused his suspicion. At some point, the terrorist charged at the officer and stabbed him in the back with the knife that was in his possession.
Another police officer, along with an additional Border Police officer who were nearby and recognized the danger, neutralized the terrorist, and his death was later confirmed at the scene.
The police officer who was stabbed was moderately injured and was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Hospital for medical treatment.
Numerous police and Border Police forces arrived at the scene of the attack, secured the scene, and forensic police officers began collecting evidence.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem District Commander conducted an initial situation assessment at the scene with the district command staff and ordered the investigation to be assigned to the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District.
Security officials said that the terrorist who carried out the stabbing attack was an Israeli Arab from the Beit Hanina neighborhood in Jerusalem.
